Truth & Myths

Personal Profile

Dispelling myths about childcare is the most import thing we can offer.

We do this often by discussions - open discussion on how they were raised and also what they have heard from others.

Dispelling these myths can bring peace of mind and help parents feel confident

Common Myths

Baby's must feed every two hours

Dealing with a baby that is screaming for its bottle is not a pleasant situation. Dispelling such myths, offering a more uptodate approach to feeding will offer parents the confidence they need to make well informed decisions based on accurate knowledge.

Baby's need peace and quiet to sleep

Evidence shows baby's sleep better with active calm noise around them, washing machines, hoovers etc

When two parents are on the same class - a great game is to draw on a card the words Truth  and Myth then as you read out common myths and truths each one hold up their answer! then ask each one where their beliefs comes from. This not only promotes bonding in a relationship, it also sets out areas where many new parents struggle with - developing a common ground in their parenting skills

Mental Health

Many think that perinatal mental health is 'just a mother being tired' or a 'fathers frustration'

Discussing mental health in a classroom really helps each one understand each others perspective - helping them to develop self help skills in understanding not only their own feelings but that of their partner.
