Menopause Support Officer Correspondence Course

Format: Self-paced, modular correspondence course


Duration: 6–8 weeks (approx. 1 module per week)


Target Audience: HR, managers, team leads, wellbeing champions

 

Course Aim:
To equip workplace staff with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to support employees going through menopause effectively, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.

Course Structure

 

Module 1: Introduction to Menopause

 

Objectives:
   •    Define peri-menopause, menopause, and post-menopause
   •    Understand average age, early menopause, and key triggers
   •    Recognise common symptoms (physical, emotional, cognitive)
 

Assignment: write a report on “What challenges might staff face in your workplace?”

   •    Myth-busting menopause misconceptions

Module 2: Menopause and the Workplace

Objectives:
   •    Explore how symptoms impact work performance, attendance, and wellbeing
   •    Identify common workplace challenges
   •    Case studies of employees experiencing menopause

 

Assignment:  Scenario analysis: How to spot symptoms impacting work      

Reflective journal: “How could I support someone in this situation?”   

•    Case study: Interview an employee on their experiences 

Module 3: Legal and Ethical Considerations (UK)

Objectives:
   •    Understand legal responsibilities under UK law
   •    Equality Act 2010, Health & Safety at Work, Employment Rights
   •    Confidentiality and ethical considerations

Materials:
   •    Legal guidance PDF

Assignment: Create a checklist for inclusive policy checklist 

                        Quiz: Identify compliance gaps in workplace scenarios

Module 4: Practical Workplace Adjustments

Objectives:
   •    Identify effective adjustments for menopause support
   •    Explore flexible working, environmental adjustments, and wellbeing strategies
   •    Learn how to integrate menopause-friendly practices into policies

 

Materials:
   •    Adjustment ideas guide
   •    Template: Workplace support plan

Assignment:  Draft a sample workplace adjustment plan

                       Prioritise adjustments by impact and feasibility

Module 5: Communication Skills

Objectives:
   •    Learn to have supportive, confidential conversations
   •    Practice active listening, empathy, and non-judgement
   •    Understand how to respond to requests for support

 

Materials:
   •    Communication tips PDF
   •    Script templates

Activities:   •   Scenario: 

                         Reflection: “How would I handle this conversation?”

Module 6: Building a Menopause-Friendly Culture

Objectives:
   •    Understand how to embed menopause awareness into workplace culture
   •    Promote policies, training, and support networks
   •    Create a proactive approach to employee wellbeing

 

Materials:
   •    Culture-building guide
   •    Sample policy template

Assignment:   •    Create a plan for a menopause support programme  in your workplace

•    What “3 steps I will take in my workplace”

Module 7: Assessment & Certification

Objectives:
   •    Assess understanding of menopause support principles
   •    Confirm readiness to act as a Menopause Support Officer

 

Assessment:   •    Multiple-choice and scenario-based quiz   •    

                            Submission: Workplace support plan based on a case study

Outcome:
   •    Certificate of completion as a Certified Menopause Support Officer
